Woodward Governor ~ A family tradition

Every Christmas, Woodward Governor sets up a little town that you can drive through with lights and music. Everyone creeps through the street to look at each setting from a church, to a choir singing, to Santa's elves hard at work. In the middle is a huge, decorated Christmas tree. We used to do this as kids with my parents and we love to continue the tradition with our kids.

December 15, 2009

The last couple of nights, Zoe has insisted on putting Addy to bed. She takes her upstairs and reads a book to her and then rubs her back. When she is done, she closes the door and comes downstairs.
It's so cute to see Zoe do this for Addy and for her to do it all on her own. This is one of the things that I love about having two girls.

Santa Claus is coming to....New Belgium
Addy and Zoe after seeing Santa

"I want a toy train for Christmas"

Santa must have been thirsty because he made a stop at New Belgium to read the kids a story and let them all sit on his lap and tell him what they want for Christmas. We practiced with Zoe since she gets nervous in situations like this and she kept saying she wanted a Scooby game and some new slippers on the way over. Once she say on Santa's lap, she said she wanted a toy train.....huh? This is the first we've heard of that.

Tonight we took the girls to "Jingle Bell Fun at the Farm" at a local park. It was a great way to hang out together. All the animals were out, including the cows, pigs, ponies, goats, sheep and chickens. They had all the buildings and fences decorated with lights. S'mores and hot dogs were available and hot chocolate. We got a great family picture on the wagon during the hay ride, but used it for our Christmas card, so you'll have to wait to get yours to see it!

These are Christmas figurines that I inherited from my Mom. I love them because they remind me of Christmas growing up. These sit on a shelf in our entryway.

December 10, 2009

I really love Christmas lights. It's been great seeing everyone putting theirs up and the girls have really enjoyed seeing them as we drive at night. This is a tree outside of my parents house. I liked how the snow looked on top of the lights.

We have had the most brutal, cold weather that we have had here in Colorado in a long time. It was below zero for a few days and even worse with the wind chill. Today was the first time the sun had been out in a few days and it was so nice to see it again!

Zoe is our little artist. She was painting and this is her palette. I loved all the colors.

"Oh the weather outside is frightful" - so let's go sledding!

Almost there!

Daddy's girl
We took the girls sledding this afternoon. This was after we figured out that our pump doesn't work on our sleds and we had to blow them up with our mouths. After getting lightheaded, we headed to the "slope" at Spring Creek park. Addy and I went 3 times and because of the cold, we headed back to the car. Zoe and Jared went a few more times. We had a great time but will wait for it to warm up before we go again.

Jared was great to arrange a group of us to go bowling for my birthday. We had a great time and had a lot of fun. The kids had their own lanes and took advantage of all the room to run around. What a guy I have!

Sesame Street LiveI had to take a picture of the balloon - this is a $10 balloon. Seriously. It belonged to some kid sitting a row in front of us. They brought them out to sell at intermission (how convenient).

The Show

Tonight we took the girls to see "Sesame Street Live" with our friends Truby, Tony, Travis and Jami. The girls had a great time. Addy was excited to see all the characters up close and Zoe had fun hanging out with Bela and Grace.

The girls and I worked on ornaments today. They loved the glitter glue the most. It was fun to craft with them.

Our favorite Christmas books

Part of the fun of getting all the Christmas decorations out is getting out all of the Christmas books to read with the girls. It's like an early present when we pull out the books and Zoe sees the ones that she really loves ("Olive the other Reindeer") and to Addy, they are all new this year. Just another reason that I love this time of year!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

It's official. We got the Christmas decorations out of the crawl space and got everything put up, plugged in and set out. I love this time of year and Jared is already sick of the Christmas music, but I listen to it whenever I can.

November 28, 2009

Jared and I were lucky enough to get an official "date night" tonight! We went to dinner at Red Lobster and then we were going to go to a movie, but read the time wrong and missed it. So instead we headed downtown for some Walrus ice cream and we walked around enjoying the lights and browsed in a beautiful art gallery. It ended up being a great (and much needed) date night.
